Skincare Business Set To Grow By 3-4%

Jayshri Gupta is a woman entrepreneur who took a plunge into the skincare business during the pandemic.  She holds a postgraduate degree in science and was busy managing her own pharmaceutical company, when COVID-19 struck and she had to rethink her career path.  With a desire to create something sustainable and natural she started Amaya Essentials, which though small scale, has premium products for skin and beauty treatment.

She spoke to Bhawna Vijan about the skincare industry size, staying ahead of competition and brand building.

How big is the skincare industry?

It’s estimated that the skin and hair market will experience an annual growth rate of 3.4 % from 2024 to 2028 (CAGR). Beauty has always been important, but many people didn’t prioritise it. Now, with greater exposure, people understand the long-term benefits of skincare. They realise that investing in their skin leads to lasting results, unlike temporary fixes.

How do you stay ahead of competition?

In this industry, some businesses operate both ethically and unethically to achieve their goals. For me, it’s all about solving my customers’ skin issues. When they return and ask for the same product repeatedly, I know I’m on the right track. My focus is on listening to my customers, addressing their concerns, and continually improving our products.

What would be your advice to young entrepreneurs who are interested in the skincare business?

I would advise them to first ask themselves why they want to enter this business. Is it just for money, because it’s trendy, or do they have a genuine passion for it? Purpose and consistency are crucial. They need to be clear about how far they’re willing to go and remain committed to their vision.

 How can one create a brand for oneself?

A brand is more than just a name; it’s a story that must be significant, inspiring, and true. Share your journey authentically, stay consistent in your messaging, and engage with your community genuinely.
